Diane Warren

Born Diane Eve Warren, 7 September 1956, in Van Nuys, California, DW is an American songwriter. Her songs have received six Academy Award nominations, five Golden Globe nominations (one win), and twelve Grammy Award nominations (one win). She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2001. Peter Reichardt, former Chairman of EMI Music Publishing UK, commented; "She's the most important songwriter in the world."

She was the first songwriter in the history of Billboard to have seven hits, all by different artists, on the singles chart at the same time. Warren owns a publishing company, Realsongs, which gives her control over her compositions. Meanwhile, her songs have been featured in more than 100 films or television shows. Her first hit was "Solitaire", which Laura Branigan took to #7 in the U.S. in 1983.


Tom Waits

Born Thomas Alan Waits, 7 December, 1949, TW is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. With this trademark growl, his incorporation of pre-rock music styles such as blues, jazz, and vaudeville, and experimental tendencies verging on industrial music, Waits has built up a distinctive musical persona. He has worked as a composer for movies and musical plays and has acted in supporting roles in films, including Paradise Alley and Bram Stoker's Dracula; he also starred in Jim Jarmusch's 1986 film Down by Law. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his soundtrack work on One from the Heart. In 2011, Waits was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.


Paul Weller

Born John William Weller, 25 May 1958, in Sheerwater, near Woking, Surrey. PW is a guitarist and singer-songwriter who founded The Jam (1976-1982). Since, Weller has branched out musically to a more soulful style with The Style Council (1983-1989). In 1991, he re-established himself as a successful solo artist. In May 2010, Weller was presented with the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award.


Amy Winehouse

Born Amy Jade Winehouse, 14 September 1983, in north London (died 23 July 2011) into an extended family of jazz musicians, AW was an English musician, singer and songwriter known for her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and reggae. AW's 2003 debut album, Frank, was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black, led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, and made her the first British female to win five Grammys. She won four Ivor Novello Awards: in 2004, in 2007 and in 2008. The BBC has called her "the pre-eminent vocal talent of her generation."


Neil Young

Born Neil Percival Young, 12 November 1945, in Toronto, Canada. NY is a singer-songwriter who is considered to be one of the most influential musicians of his generation. He co-founded Buffalo Springfield with Stephen Stills in 1966, and later joined Crosby, Stills and Nash in 1969. His career has spanned 50 years and 33 studio albums. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame describes NY as “one of rock and roll’s greatest songwriters and performers.”


Frank Zappa

Born Francis Vincent Zappa, 21 December 1940, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA; died 4 December 1993. FZ was a composer, songwriter, guitarist, record producer and film director who wrote rock, jazz, electronic, orchestral, and musique concrete works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. Zappa produced almost all of the 94 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. Zappa was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997.


Elizabeth Ziman

Born in NYC, 15 June, EZ is a musician and singer-songwriter who plays guitar, drums and  piano. She trained from youth as a classical pianist and attended the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship to study classical composition. She was awarded the 2001 ASCAP Leiber and Stoller scholarship for her song Like Water Is To Sand. Ziman’s band Elizabeth & The Catapult recorded and produced their eponymous EP in 2006. The band signed with Verve Records in 2008. A debut album Taller Children was released in 2009. A third album, Like It Never Happened, was released in early 2014.
